"SOMETHING TIMES THREE"
The Common Denominator for Movie-Going Couples with Different Tastes in
Films facing a Seemingly Irreconcilable & Cinematically Fractious Parting
of the Ways  : )
(C) Copyright 1997 by James W. King; All Rights Reserved.
A sample filksong from my forthcoming "Filksongs of Known Space & Time"
filksongbook released in anticipation of all three Star Wars Special
Editions' playing in cinemas simultaneously across the nation
[Sung to the tune of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something from
their 1995 album "Home."]

You were sayin'_
    we've got nothing in common_ ,
        no common worlds to start from_ ,
            and we're drifting apart_ .

You were sayin'_
    movies have come between us_ ;
        Genres have stood between us_ ,
            but I know_ that just don't_ wash__.

So I said, "What about_ the Star Wars Trilogy_ ?"

She said, "How well I_ remember those films_ !
    And as I recall_ , I think_ , we both really liked'em_ ."

And I said_ , "Well, that's_ the one thing we've got_ !"

We've seen_'em_
     time after time together_ ;
Now we must decide whether_
    the Force'll be with_ us__ .

But why_ NOW_ ,
    just two years* 'fore the Prequels_ ?!
And there's sure to be more sequels_ !
So maybe there's hope_ for us__ .

And I said, "How 'bout the_ new Star Wars Trilogies?"

She said, "I'm lookin'_ forward to those films!
    And if all goes well_ , we might_ just see 'em together_ ."

And I said, "Well, that's_ two more things we've got!_ "

Don't say__
   that we've got nothing in common_ ,
      no common worlds to start from_ ,
           or we're drift-ing apart__ .

I say_
    genres won't come between us_ ;
        Diff'rences don't demean us_ ;
            We're quite a film-going_ pair__ .

And I said, "Remember_ the Star Wars Trilogy_ ?"
    They're back_ playin' in_ local cinemas_ ,
            and as I recall_ , they're all_ on a triple feature_ ."

And she said, "Well, what_ are we waitin' for?!__ " ....

Ohhhh__ , so I said, "What about_ the Star Wars Trilogy_ ?"

She said, "How I do_ cherish all those films_ !
    And as you recall_ -- YOU KNOW_ -- we BOTH really like'em_ ."

And I said, "Well, that's_ the one thing we've got_ !"

And she said, "How 'bout the_ new Star Wars Trilogies_ ?"

I said, "I'm lookin'_ forward to those films_ !
    And if all goes well_ , we might_ just see 'em together_ ."

And she said, "Well, that's_ two more things we've got__ !" . . . .

-- Genre (pronounced "DZAHN-rah") = A particular sort, kind or category of
any artistic medium (in this case, films).
-- "That just don't wash" = a slangy shorthand way of saying, "I don't buy
that argument because it just doesn't add up or make any sense."
-- 'fore = before.
-- "Diff'rences don't demean us" = "Our having different tastes in movies
doesn't mean we should hold each other in any lower esteem for that or any
other related reasons concerning individual personal preferences in
movie-viewing."
-- *Just two years 'fore the Prequels: Singers can fill in time changes
as necessary to this verse phrase.
-- The song title, "Something Times Three" = "Something X 3," which means
"Something in Common, Our Love of the Three Star Wars Trilogies." (The
Three Star Wars Trilogies are the Middle Trilogy, Episodes 4-6; the
upcoming Prequel Trilogy, Episodes 1-3; and the still anticipated Final
Trilogy, Episodes 7-9.)
