I finally got a chance to play around with OS/2 a bit this weekend
(I'm using 2.1). After updating the DOS window settings as shown
below, {COMMO} performed flawlessly with a 14400 modem (I don't have
the SIO drivers installed, but my modem has a 16550).

COM_DIRECT_ACCESS On
COM_HOLD On
HW_TIMER On
IDLE_SECONDS 60
IDLE_SENSITIVITY 100 Very Important!!
INT_DURING_IO On
