I don't know what the public schools are teaching today.  When I was
in them religion wasn't taught and was only rarely even mentioned.  Ignoring
it is not the same thing as contradicting or suppressing.  When I was in
a Catholic high school, religion was only rarely mentioned outside of religion
*class*; AFAIK religion classes are not taught in public schools below college
freshman.
