In the original Chicago plan, Daniel Burnham wanted 5 small island parks built on the lake. The only one that was built was this one, called Northerly Island. The island becamed landed after the 1933 Chicago Fair. Later, a newspaper publisher, Merrill Meigs decided an airport should be built there. And not living there is not a hinderance. In that vicinity is the Field Museum of Natural History, the John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Adler Planetarium, Soldier Field, and Grant Park. Believe me, there are people there *all* the time. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-4* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/1.45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/1 633/267 |
