I'm inclined to think that the problem is probably a bug in IREX.  I used
to use the BinkP support in IREX, but after finding it crashed several
times, I switched to using BinkD, and have never looked back since.  The
only thing IREX does here now is support downlinks that receive their mail
via TransX or FTP.
