True. But if they missed some of the earlier messages, they'd be
lost anyway, unless every message quoted the whole of the one it
was replying to, including all the quotes that were in that
message, and the quotes of quotes, and the quotes of quotes of
quotes, and so on ad infinitum.

I've known threads to go on for months, with maybe fifty postings
along the line. It would be impracticable to quote all of them.

So where do you suggest would be a good place to draw the line?

I hold to the view that I'll only quote what I think is
immediately relevant to my reply, but I'd like to hear your
views. I won't necessarily agree with you.

OTOH maybe your way is better, but I won't know until you tell
me how you think we should work it.

Meanwhile, I wish a Joyous Christmas to you and all your kin and
friends. I hope we can have a long and happy correspondence.
