Being cheaper or about the same has been the story of gasoline for decades. i.e. the article claimed that 1920 gasoline prices inflated to today would cost about $3.11 per gallon. Not far off. But the offsetting killer was and is the increases in other things automobile related. As in oil searches and extracting, maintenence, insurance, etc.. In comparison to Europe's $8 prices, and their costs for the above, gasoline at $4 is much cheaper here. As the Euros will tell you, that price is on the plus side of 50% taxes collected by the government.
