With my -a or -au, rsync doesn't stop on the "file is now a dir" error,
it just gives an error message and continues.
-a implies -p which means -E is ignored.
-z is mostly useless nowadays, in my experience.
Like I said, I would never use --delete on a backup for fear of losing
the last copy of a file I accidentally deleted on my source drive. But
if you want a 1-to-1 mirror, then yeah. Many subtleties to consider:
