I'm not so sure about that, either.  When you have served your time, you
are supposed to have paid your debt to society for your wrongs.
How many violent criminals would juries & judges let off light, if they
knew that as soon as they got out, they could buy guns.  I you can't be
trusted with a gun (after due process), then you shouldn't be let out.
All govt employees have to do is frame someone for a llight-weight felony,
then take away their gun "privileges" away for life.
