something that is not a custom formatted storage container... dBase was all
the rage way back when but SQL is the big player today with several
database engines to choose from... even locally run binaries can use SQL
either via a SQL server hosted somewhere or locally...

"web code" doesn't necessarily mean "on the web"...
"web code" can be anything from perl, python, ruby, or php to
java, javascript, ajaxified XHTML and other such... "web code"
only means that there's a web server hosting it somewhere and that you use
a browser or custom app to access it for the "human interface"
side... importing data can easily be done via several methods... feeding
netmails to a "robot" is only one method and is pretty easy to
do...
