Technically, no. Except for just cause (limited to poor performance,
or failure to follow orders). Even then, Dr. Fauci could appeal, which
would be a time-consuming process.

Difficult? How difficult was it for Dr. Fauci to get his message
out by having an interview with The Atlantic magazine, with the news
media quoting his every word - from both the video interview and the
print edition?

Sure, Trump has sidelined the good doctor, keeping him away from
press briefings and media interviews. Trump even claims to have dropped
him from his "panel of experts". Now ask yourself this question -
When was the last time Donald Trump held a press briefing with his
"panel of experts"? Been quite a while. Over a month.

One more question -

Who do you think the American people are listening to - the man who
tells the truth, or the man who is a pathological liar?
