Well, I didn't say that no one would EVER need gigabit Ethernet to the
desktop. I can't imagine a growth rate in data that would justify this sort
of bandwidth: the need to transfer this much data presupposes that you would
have some way to generate and store it, which I don't see happening soon.
I would be willing to bet that no one in the real world (outside of
government and academia) would need gigabit Ethernet to the desktop within
two years.
