subject: Plecostomus Woes...

I'm on my second pleco. The first one died within approx. a week of putting
him in the tank -- I think it was because the algae hadn't built up enough to
support him. I woke up one morning and he was swaying back and forth in the
filter wake, "attached" to one of the plastic plants. That was a few months
ago.
I bought another one, a larger, heartier fish. He seems to be doing well,
and
is a lot more active than the last one. Seems a lot more intelligent too, if
that's possible. What I mean is, he's a lot more systematic when he's
feeding
in the tank.
In any case, since I introduced him to the tank the other day, the algae
level
has REALLY dropped, and I'm worried that I may not have enough fish in there
to
keep the algae level up high enough for him to survive. I've tried those
Spirulina disks, but he doesn't seem terribly interested in them. I just
want
to SEE him eat something solid to ease my fears that he's going to be the
next
death in the tank. Is it true that they do most of their feeding at night?
It's not one of the fancy plecos... all the other ones at the store had
species
names... this one was just a regular, plain Jane "Plecostomus". Cat Plecos I
believe they're called?
