CH> Sigh. Roy. The article was neutral. And I for one have a very
CH> conservative opinion of "art". Please don't let 'source' determine
CH> for you whether an article is worthy of your own interpretation or
 CH> not.

I'm afraid I can't do that. I don't support movie actors who tell us that
they support the left because they're movie stars. I don't buy that
newspaper because of what THAT newspaper has printed in the past. I don't
watch news programs where they constantly belittle the President for what
they perceive as wrong. I don't care for their bigotry either.

CH> It's actually beneficial if not practice- to read 'from both
 CH> sides'.

I've heard enough of the 'other side' to last a lifetime.

CH> Now the only 'sides' otther than the two you and I are
CH> talking about (and they do shift back and forth depending on the
CH> issue at hand with all of us)- are the extremes at both ends. Now
CH> those are the ones to worry about.

There are extremes in the middle too. Or or at least they want you to
believe they're in the middle.

CH> I think of Art as being junk art or pure art. Junk Art It hink
CH> predominates now and this is a sad thing.

I never did pay much attention to it, since it all looks like junk to me.
I have paintings hanging on the wall, but they're nothing significant. I
have photos on the wall, but they mean little to me. What they do is break
up the moneteny of the otherwise blank wall.

CH> I mean no matter what your bias bent is- just how much talent/skill/
CH> perception etc does it take to preduce some of the stuff we are
CH> suppsed to accept as so called "Modern Art"?

My son is an artist and better suited to answer that one. However, in
reality, he works for a living in a trade that I told him he should
persue. He holds an AA in Art, but has never used it to get a job. He's
also a self taught computer expert and works as an IT. That pays a whole
lot more than painting pictures and is the work I told him to put his life
into.

CH> Look at Impressionism and Realism art; the Classics. The Masters.
CH> These people are gifted. They take what they see and transport it to
CH> the canvas in such a way that it boggles the mind. The careful
CH> balance of colors and light to produce dimention- takes skilll. Not
CH> just anybody can do that.

My MIL (could) and wife can paint by numbers. OTH, my wife's BIL has an
art studio in California and teaches poor little rich kids how to paint
pitures. Not too bad himself.

CH> Now take "Modeqarn Art" ... sigh. Just about ANYBODY can do that.

Even Elephants and Chimpanzees.

CH> And this isn't a Conservative or Liberal view. To me it's simply the
 CH> truth.

That would depend Some folks like conservative art and some folks like
liberal arts. You don't like modern art because it's too liberal for you.

CH> As for the article , I didn't finish it. There's too many people
CH> calling themselves artists and I don't know why other than they do it
CH> because the can. They get people to THINK what they do is 'art'...
CH> and then charge their rent/lifestyle needs for it..
 CH> ........................................................

And sell it on the street corner.

CH>> Be honest. I understand the attitude. I doubt i'd have read it if it
CH>> were in a paper I didn't care for either.

RW>> Without going into politics and the left leaning attitude of the
 RW>> NYT, I can't comment further here.

CH> Roy. I am very very sorry you feel this way about what I commented
CH> on. It was not political! Now don' you think you're being a tad too
CH> sensitive? Reading into what isn't there?

As I expalained above about supporting certains things that don't help the
attitude of this country.

CH> A friend send me a GOFLING joke! Four people I sent it to all
CH> thought it was funny. ONE person who is a Conservative thought it was
CH> 'conservative bashing'. The rest of us looked at the joke and
CH> couldn't figure it out. Well he explained and I told him the
CH> reference could have been anybody... sigh.

CH> See? Sometimes, Roy, A cake is just a cake. (And yes this is a
CH> different take on the original.)

Did I mention that I don't like cake either? :o)
