I 'll answer to the last:
When Christianity became a religion, lose a huge essense of Christ's teaching.
This was done by other people, not Christ. See for example the 'Symbol of
Faith' (in Greek-Orthodox church but it's quite the same in Catholic Church).
There is nowhere in it the word "love". But love was the essense of Christ's
teaching.

So, don't rely on Christ's teaching for explaning religion orders. :-)
