I think the longevity of an automobile isn't the most attractive thing we
consider when buying. I have a 1988 Chevy Camaro out in the driveway that
has 150k miles on it and has had very little go wrong with it in those
miles. Brakes, oil changes, spark plugs, water pump, radiator, hoses,
etc.. Normal wear and tear items. It even has the original clutch. That
car also happens to be the only car that I've kept the longest over the
length of time (50 years) I've owned automobiles. So, to me, it doesn't
matter that GM transmissions don't last past 150k miles, since I won't be
owning it when that time arrives. I've seen plenty of Asian cars that
don't last half as long as the American cars, so I'll continue to buy
American cars and let the rest of you buy the Asian stuff. Just like
everything else on this earth, they all wear out.
