Because he has royally bungled the nation's response to COVID-19,
ignoring early warnings for months while replacing them with fairy tale
statements. He ignored the recommendations of science until it was all
too obvious that there was a pandemic well established and it was all
too late. Instead of acting as a leader to organize responses to the
health crisis, he pretty much just told the states "you handle it and
fight it out among yourselves.  I am not responsible".   His
incompetence has cost tens of thousands of American lives.  Why
shouldn't all that be held against him at election time?
