Let me just say that we didn't dodge anything. We took a direct hit, but
the eye of the hurricane was all over the place when it came ashore, so
it's difficult for me to say what happened where. I did hear one story
that the eye passed over Morgan City, which is about 45-miles due west of
here.

We had electric power restored over the weekend. That's just in this
neighborhood. There are some sections of the city without electric power.
Last Monday after the Sun came up and the visibility was good, I went out
on the front porch to watch debris of all sorts flying down the street.
The house faces almost due south, so the sustained winds and the gusts were
blowing right past us. It felt kind of good, until one of those blasts
tore off a section of the porch screening and that hit me in the face. I'm
unharmed.

A friend of mine two doors down took off for Dallas without even saying
goodbye. (-: As it turns out, they aren't coming back until this next one
passes (Ike) and according to the projected path by the computers, it's
headed directly for Houston and if that's so, then we'll catch some heavy
rains and some gusty winds as it passes to the south. So, if I were him,
I'be be heading east right now.

I like her and found her to be (I watched her speech) a breath of fresh
air, which is just what the politics here in Baja-Canada need. (-:
