Tom McCraw (LSH/L* co-plotter/colorist) and Jeff Moy (L* penciller) were
the guests on America Online's Legionnaires Chat for Thursday, March 5,
1998. DCU Executive Editor Mike Carlin and Mark Waid also showed up.
Legion of Super-Heroes Chat takes place every Tuesday in the DC Comics
Online area of AOL at 6:00 PM EST. Legionnaires Chat is held every
Thursday in the same area at 10:00 PM EST. (Keyword: CHAT DC.) Regular
guests include Tom McCraw, Jeff Moy, Jason Armstrong, Ron Boyd and Mike
McAvennie.
Thanks to T. Troy McNemar who originated the Legion Chat Reports; so much
of the format of these writeups was derived from his hard work.
DISCLAIMER: I can't guarantee the reliability of this report. Essentially,
the Legion chats involve about twenty-five fans shouting repeated questions
to the creators. The creators are sometimes unable to answer questions
thoroughly or clarify their responses. As a result, misinterpretations may
occur on my part.
SPOILERS: Information that spoils current or upcoming issues is found
toward the end of this report. There's no spoiler space to separate such
info from the more general comments.

:=========================:
Tom is coloring a story for the JLA's 80-Page Giant. The Legion books
aren't getting a giant, but Tom wishes they were. He's also busy with
November's CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS hardcover reprint; researching the
characters' colors is more time-consuming than coloring per se. Some
Legionnaire coloring will need to be corrected; for example, Dawnstar will
have darker skin. CRISIS penciller George Perez has also offered
suggestions for corrections. Tom isn't looking forward to coloring CRISIS
#7 next week.
It took Jeff thirteen hours, including breaks, to draw two pages of L* #63.
Jeff had considered giving bellbottoms to Tinya, but decided against it.
Tom guesses that the Dr. Gingold drink in L* #59 was named in honor of the
elixir that empowers the Elongated Man; it probably couldn't give
stretching powers to anyone.
As far as Tom knows, the Legion is still up for a guest appearance next
season on the SUPERMAN cartoon.
POWER OF SHAZAM! editor Mike Carlin said the timing of Thunder's upcoming
appearance in the Legion books was up to Legion editor Mike McAvennie, but
thought the #1,000,000's might be a good opportunity. Mike was also sure
that the Legion is featured in August's ADVENTURE COMICS 80-PAGE GIANT,
although Tom hadn't heard of any story there. ADVENTURE is edited by Paul
Kupperberg; its seven 10-page stories will star characters who have
appeared in the old title over the years.
Mark Waid is too busy to write his long-awaited miniseries about Invisible
Kid. Mark will surely write XS into the "Chained Lightning" arc (which
starts in FLASH #143 and not #142), but doesn't know how long she'll be
guesting in FLASH.
We'll see Sun Boy again some day, but not soon. (The question asked for
"Sun Boy", not Dirk Morgna. But the answer could have meant just Dirk,
who wouldn't necessarily return as Sun Boy. Take that as you will.)
Jeff was disappointed with the cover to L* #60. He'd drawn Karate Kid and
Kid Quantum on a separate piece of board, so their images could be
superimposed on the main art. This would more easily accommodate a
transparent effect by the color separators. But since the transparency was
hardly used, it was a waste of his time and effort not to do it all on one
board. Also, KQ's display of her powers is miscolored.
