| subject: | Re: CAT6 tools |
From: Chris I talked with our wiring guys as we have been migrating to CAT6 wiring. Be sure to check the cable type. Is it stranded or solid wire? If it is solid wire, our wiring guru strongly suggests NOT to use it as patch cables, as it will not tolerate (and was not designed for) the bending and stresses that most patch cables will go through. It will also have a larger bend radius because it's solid. If it's bent too far, you are likely to break the wires inside. Also, make sure the crimp is on the jacket, not the wires. If you are going to punch it down anywhere, there are much tighter tolerances for how much untwisting is allowed and meet the CAT6 spec. In short, we don't make our patch cables because of the difficulty involved wrt reliability of the finished cable. /Chris Richard B. wrote: > We've got several hundred feet of CAT6 cable left over here and I > thought I'd let my tech make us some patch cables. > > Anyone got some advice for the best tools to use and maybe test the > cable?
