subject: Writing to a file

First off, I am in the process of learning everything I can about c++,
or at least trying. But as of now I am an extreme novice. I know the
basics but that's about it. Anyway, I have been trying to figure out
how to, within the source code, save data on a file that can later be
retrieved.
    A SENARIO:
Say I created a game and I prompted the user for
his/her name to be placed on the high score list. How could I place
the name in a seprate file so it can be retrieved the next time the
game is played and the high scores displayed.
Thanx,
Phil
