intercept an entire species when they drop their bodies
and transistion to spirit beings.  To Live in Starlight
shows an evolved human convert from physical to

In The Gathering it is the encounter suit which receives the
poison.  Vorlons use organic technology to the point their
ships register as alive, so should the encounter suits.  And
given the resistance Kosh later showed to leaving his
encounter suit he might have wanted to stay in it until it
actually died of the poisoning.  That and some amount of
story drift between pilot and series.
