Well, the workaround was "funky" but it works.

1) An ethernet cable comes from the Xfinity cable modem to the LinkSys
EA7300 Router. The BBS main computer and the laptop, along with a
special "phone" for a deal called "Hamshack Hotline"
are connected to
the router.

2) Another ethernet cable takes up slot 4 on the router, and goes to the
back bedroom where the cable modem, plus my Mom's computer, and the ADT
alarm system deal for the camera are, along with a "network switch" for
those. That second cable from the router plugs into the network switch.

This had to be done, as I had to put the cable modem into "bridge
mode" for the BBS to be connected to.

I've got a 750 Gigabyte external USB drive, and I'll use that on the
laptop computer for backups. I just bought a 4 Terabyte external USB
drive, and I'll use that for the BBS computer for backups. My Mom's
computer has a USB drive of its own for data backups.
