From: "Dave Ings"
I've noticed two things:
1. With non-trival documents OpenOffice generates the PDF significantly
faster, using perhaps 1/3 the time. 2. With complicated PowerPoint graphics
Acrobat sometimes generates a slide that takes several seconds to render in
Adobe reader. I've rarely seen this behavior with OpenOffice.
Both programs seem to have problems with embedded artwork - colors shift,
blotches appear, z-order gets messed up. Seems to be related to color
palette management, but that's just a guess on my part.
My boss was in a meeting with an Adobe executive recently. The Adobe
executive was very surprised to see how much faster the OpenOffice
generation was.
YMMV of course.
