Sort of reminds me of Cingular Wireless. I had my cell phone with them from the first time I ever had one. At about the time the two year contract was up, they'd start sending me brochures about a `new phone' that was better than the one I had. Of course...it came with a `new two year contract'. I liked the company, and needed the phone, so I'd get a new one. Then, AT&T took it over. And by thenI had a phone I really liked. So when AT&T sent me brochures at the near-end of contract time, I ignored them. What did the bastards do? After I ignored two or three more brochures, they sent me a notice that the SIM card in my phone was of an outdated technology, and I should come into an AT&T store to have the SIM card changed. And that after a cut-off date, my present SIM card would no longer work. So I went in to have the SIM card changed, but (of course!)...the new SIM card `won't work in *your* phone....you'll have to have a *new* one'. Ended up with anOTHer two year contract! Two years went by. Then...`darned' if my phone wasn't `out-dated technology! But..I could get the *new* technology by just coming into my AT&T store. They'd be *glad* to fix me up.' I was in and out of BEST BUY all the time for DVD's, external drives, thumb drives, etc; and I'd seen some of the phone and phone cards they had. I didn't really like the phone I'd gotten from AT&T the last time, it was crappy. So I picked out the one I wanted from BEST BUY, bought it, and the girl took my old SIM card and transfered the info from it to the SIM card in my new phone. That was about six or eight years back. AT&T stopped their campaign to get a new two year contract out of me after awhile. when they'd threaten to disable my SIM card, I'd go in and tell them if they did, I'd buy a `monthly' cell phone service from BEST BUY and drop AT&T. Actually, the monthly service I'd get from BEST BUY is cheaper than AT&T, and they know it. So they don't bother me anymore. I have their service...they send me a bill every month...I pay the bill...everybody's happy! When I saw the messages about Windows XP support ending...I had to click out and look to see what version I've got on this computer. I had a setup that used XP once, but this isn't it. This has Vista on it. My laptop has windows 7. I'm going to get an HP one of these days that has everything right in the monitor with no tower involved. Saves space. That technology has Windows 8 on it I think. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Fidonet Since 1991 Join Us: www.DocsPlace.org (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 3/0 203/0 633/267 640/384 1384 712/0 620 848 @PATH: 123/140 500 320/119 203/0 640/384 712/848 633/267 |
