So far anyway. I am not saying that someone will not come along & contribute more than he did , but it's hard to imagine how. The reasons are this. 1) In his youth, Bruce mastered his traditional art of Wing Chun Kung Fu. But unlike most other martial artists, He was not so closed minded that He thought Kung Fu techniques were the only effective ones - or that they were all superior to the techniques of other styles of fighting. Bruce realized that using only traditional Kung Fu or only one fighting style for that matter was restricting and not ultimately doing the opposite of what that art was created for, defending yourself. Bruce wrote a book called The Tao of Jeet Kune Do. It is the greatest book of all time in terms of martial arts books. Reading that book made Me truly understand what Bruce Lee truly meant to the world of martial arts & the world in general. I have been asked in interviews who I would most like to meet & I always say there are two people 1)Bruce Lee & 2) Elvis Presley. Bruce Lee is the original Mixed Martial Artist. In his book you will find complex diagrams he drew outlining his vision of a true unrestricted fighting system. His philosophy was that anything that worked was part of Jeet Kune Do. He outline Grappling, Western Boxing, & every other effective means of defending yourself that he had ever been exposed to. Bruce had the puching power of a heavyweight boxer at 140 pounds. His speed was mindblowing. Gordon Solie would have said about Bruce Lee "He's not quick, He's sudden!". Along with what he contributed to the fighting aspect of martial arts, He was just as much a philsopher. What is called Mixed Martial Arts today has many men who are great fighters, however when you see a guy like Tank Abbott ( who I personally think has huge heart & gives 100% everytime he fights) called a martial artist, I think the term is used out of context. He's a great fighter. double tough. But martial arts involves discipline & spiritualism. So many guys now fighting pay no attention to that aspect at all. Bruce Lee is the ultimate martial artist. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the matter. This is mine.
