BS> Another, ah, jewel missed by the press (I caught wind of it
BS> on a radio show, and later found it buried deep within
BS> newspaper report -- excluded from other in this area) was
BS> one of the reasons Janet Reno gave for the pressing need to
BS> wrap up the standoff: She claimed they had reports that an
BS> "armed militia" was preparing to descend upon Waco, either
BS> to free Koresh or to do him in.
This is the wrong conference, go to civlib. This is the
infamous Linda Thompson call for and UNARMED assembly, she showed
up to try to send in diapers and formula, about 20 people showed
up including her family, and is scared the pants [sic] off of
Reno.
BS> The press has been absolutely silent on this claim. It
BS> would be two years (to the day :-) before the militia
BS> movement was of much concern to anyone, much less the
BS> (armed) government. Yet she was able to raise this bugaboo
BS> unquestioned.
BS>
BS> One question I have: I was not following the reports prior
BS> to the attack very closely (I had other concerns closer to
BS> home), but I do not ever recall reading or hearing any
BS> reports of child abuse at the compound *before* the fire.
BS> I am sure I would have remembered such, given a certain
BS> sensitivity to the issue. Do any of you recall such
BS> reports *before* the administration felt they needed a
BS> cover-up?
Given the known lie about a call for an ARMED assembly and
the pretense of ignorance of what actually happened when LT
showed up, you can imagine the veracity of her child abuse
claims. I have no memory whatsoever of any claim of child abuse
claims before the attack. After it, there was a non-specific "no
evidence of the children being unharmed" statement followed ten
months later by the release of the videotape showing the children
were unharmed.
These days, "for the children," justifies anything, ask the
McMartins.
