I saw a couple different network news programs point out the same thing: It
is not the "historical" meaning of the flag that is important,
but rather that its meaning has EVOLVED into something that is serving as a
symbol for many racist organizations and racist-minded people.
And while I am sure that other examples could be found in other symbols, in
today's world, few would come as close to this focused, racist message that
this symbol has now become.
It is past time for this flag to be voluntarily retired as a flag, and to
have its image exhibited only in books of history or dusty corners of
museums.
While the PEOPLE who fought sincerely in this struggle should not be
forgotten, this symbol of CHANGED MEANING needs to be retired, if only out
of respect for what it USED to stand for....
