On 04-01-09, ROSS SAUER said to ED HULETT: RS>The Talmud, (which is loosely called the "Old Testament" by Christians,) No....it isn't, stupid! That which you refer to is `the Pentateuch'...which consists of the first five books of the old testament: Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronony RS>has at least one book supposedly of history, yet archaelogical work shows RS>the book of Exodus to be an almost complete fabrication. The `Talmud' is something entirely different. It is a written form of Rabbinical discussions pertaining to Jewish law and custom. RS>One example: The "Battle of Jericho." The Talmud has nothing whatever to do with `the Battle of Jericho'. RS>Archaeological explorations of the Jericho site indicate that the "Mighty RS>City of Jericho" had already fell into ruin, by the time Joshua got to it. RS>Earthquakes have a tendency to do that. Jericho is one of the oldest cities in the world, with habitation of it dating back over 9000 years ago. It came under many and varied rulers. RS>But among the faithful, who is going to admit to having been lied to? As for the Battle of Jericho, which the bible relates that involves Joshua, your `archeological exploration' info is probably just about as accurate as your knowledge of what the `Talmud' is, and what constitutes the `Pentateuch'; wide-gapped, fragmented, and faulty. You really need to get a clue sometime soon. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/250 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 222/2 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 690/734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
