I'm not familiar with the new mercs, but both use the reed (Leaf Plate)
setup. On OMC outboards, the reed plates are incorporated in the intake
manifold between the powerhead and the carbs, and are not rotary.   The
Merc outboards used a rotary type leaf plate assy that was/is  attached
to the crankshaft.
