There is (or was) an echo just FOR those who use (or DID use) Linux.

Didn't know much about Linux, and I still don't. But I read that echo because
some people I know in Fido posted there a lot.

The tone of the subject (Linux) always seemed to boast how much better than
Gates's `Windows' versions Linux was.

Except....a lot of the traffic in there was aimed at informing each other how
to deal with the problems Linux posed, especially to new users of that media.

And, truthfully, most of the `solutions' were far beyond the ordinary computer
user's capability.

Not only that...many of the problems with Linux seemed to me to recur far too
often to make it worth the time or effort to fool with.

It seemed to me that, with all the problems and headaches the use of Linux
posed to the ordinary user, they might just as well stick to Windows and be
done with it.

Besides that, I don't think there's an awful lot of software out there for
Linux. When I go to buy the new version of my favorite golf game, or any of
the Flight Simulator versions, not to mention card games, etc; I never see any
written in `Linux' format. There must be a reason for that.

There are millions of desktop computer users out there who only want to turn
their computer on and surf the InterNet for news stories, e-mail from friends,
or shopping bargains. They care less about having to climb a learning curve to
use an operating system like Linux.

I do wish there was an operating system out there that wasn't tied to
Microsoft; one that worked as good or better, had all the good features
Microsoft Windows allows. But Linux isn't it.
