Hi Jeannelou,
JT> guess i am just going to have to let them leak, as i am already paying
Ok, guess sometimes we have to pay one way or another and a little
leakage will remind folks every time they see it of the one who made the
ornament.
JT> This is just one of a long line of card/ornaments that i have done
JT> for Christmas. Each year i try to use a different medium. Some i
JT> have done were wooden teddybears, soft sculptured carolers, cs- many
Whew! You are ambitious! We have done a letter the past few years
(except last year when Steve was in Korea and I was sick) since our
friends are so far flung. We did hand crafted things for all of our
siblings/parents the first year we were married; sand candles with
macrame hangers (had fun tying them with a kitten in the apartment) was
the most ambitious of them. Then we decided to give to our parents
only, most years and have done anything from sweatshirts (painted and
jackets) to hand carved (by someone else) signs to other crafted things.
This year we decided to help other children with the Angel Tree project
and send a small angel to our folks to represent what we had done
instead.
JT> etc.. Until i got into RS, i would write the verse, and then hand
JT> print [when i was hard up] or calligraph the verse and have it printed

Rachel had calligraphy in junior high school; like cake decorating, she
is good at it with a little practice. I'm left handed; have not had too
much success with "fancy writing."
JT> illuminated scrolls. We mailed them rolled. I used part of John
JT> chapter 1, so it
JT> was suitable for hanging through the year.
Nice! That is the kind of thing I really like, both the idea of
the scroll and the text. Our pastor did a sermon about the Christmas
story in John's gospel a week or so ago.
JT> year i will just get some NICE commercial cards and send them.
JT> Between the time we get down here and get settled in, and card mailing
JT> time, is so short that there just isn't time to do it well and i'm
With all else that you do, I wouldn't blame you! The semi-annual
migration is hard but having the major holidays come so fast after you
get in one place really must make it "fun."
JT> That is the same reason that i haven't joined the COE exchange.
JT> Too busy that time of year, as though there were a time of year that i
I was in for a couple of years, then lost my feed last year for several
months and missed the sign up. This year, I realised I had so much else
to do, I didn't have time to make a decent ornament.
JT> wasn't running under the whip. To be honest, the things i do are
JT> taken on freely [as opposed to having to make a living] but this is
JT> just one
JT> thing where i am no longer willing.
I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel like I'm running in place to get
all done that I need to. Last week I cut out a dress to wear for our
choir concert; finished the dress yesterday afternoon. It's a deep
emerald green crushed velvet; shirt bodice (I dropped the waist a couple
of inches), almost ankle length skirt gathered to the waist and a lace
collar (purchased lace yardage and made my own collar). I also added
seam pockets to the skirt; it looked stunning!
JT> Today, we played musical chairs with our furniture. Our needs
We played that when Rachel left home; now her room is a combination
library, computer and sewing room.
JT> Thanks for providing a shoulder. Shalom, ll
You're welcome. I'm glad you're feeling better. Having the echoes
helped me get thru the time Steve was in Korea; enough people gave me
support when I needed it that I return as much as I can to others in
need. Take a deep breath, look around and see what really needs to be
done and say "forget you!" to the rest.
Catch you later,
Ruth
