JF> You're quite obviously the game audiophile around here (that's your
JF> job!), so I'm wondering what you think of my new P2/300's sound setup.
Sorry for the delay. I've been quite seriously ill over the past week, and
this is the first time I've touched a computer since the 6th. I'm still
not 100% healthy (probably closer to 75%), so don't expect length.
 JF> I've got an AWE64 Gold, and Altec-Lansing ACS-55 speakers (they're
JF> those weird, black ones with the subwoofer). From what I've heard,
 JF> both are solid choices.
Altec Lansing is okay. Caimbridge Soundworks might have been better, since
Creative Labs owns them (can you say "tuned system"?). As for the AWE64
Gold, it's good for today's gaming. Give it a while, and it'll be out of
date - the SoundBlaster Live may squish it quite hard.
JF> PS Do you (or any other 3D Realmers) actually read magazines such as
JF> CGW and PCG? I imagine you do, since they often give you a straight,
JF> unbiased view of what a game is like. I'm sure you disagreed with the
JF> Shadow Warrior reviews in both magazines...
I read 'em when I find 'em. They all come into the office. As for the
reviews of SW, I liked what they had to say about music and sound, so they
made me happy at least. As for unbiased, I don't know and can't say for
sure. The only unbiased magazine I know of, Consumer Reports, doesn't rate
games.
