I didn't need to see it, but I was curious of how it happened. I thought
they played up the tears a bit too much though.

The engine or supercharger exploding, which is in the cockpit.
Unfortunately. They have fire extinguishers in the cockpit too, but I
don't know if they're automatic or the driver has to fire them off. Of
course the fuel used, Nitro Methane, is very volatile.
