JF> True, it always has bugged me as to why these people could carry so
JF> many weapons on their backs and belts without either trundling along
JF> slowly or just not functioning. But let's face it - it's a concession
JF> to gameplay. What we're really looking for is a game closer to
JF> Trespasser. Your inventory is readily available... just look down,
JF> it's on your belt hooks! Anything else you either actively carry or
JF> gets thrown (such as a rock).
now *that* idea i like, i've been waiting for that sort of thing to be
introduced into a game for quite awhile, or even just the option of
just being able to actually *see* the rest of your body, i felt
a little let-down when quake didn't have that..
JF> Maybe in Prey, you could choose what
JF> weapons you carry by dropping and picking up the weapons you want to
JF> take with you to the next environment ("don't call them levels," the
JF> Prey team says).
maybe, and while that's awesome you have to wonder if thats what people
*really* want..
sure it sounds cool but it might get fustrating if the grenade launcher you
need to blow open a door on the 15th floor of a hotel is lying on the
checkout desk way down in the lobby. i love the idea of being 'limited'
just like a real person but i hate it at the same time, i imagine it
has something to do with being somewhat 'coddled' by all the 3D games
eleased
so far... and when a game comes out where you can die from hypothermia and
only carry as much as a normal person could then many people who are
used to the seemingly endless stamina of the 'doom-guy' are going to
take a step back and say: 'wow... im going to die because i just fell down
a hill and broke my ankle and i cant walk and it's 20 below out here..'
i guess what im trying to say is most people's first impression when
they hear of a game where it's realistic is 'cool! i can do stuff like in
real life!'. but then, if the game is too realistic they may throw it in
the garbage because when it comes right down to it people like un-realistic
games, realistic very rarely = better..
JF> I don't think they'll suffer from dullness so long as the designers
JF> maintain focus. After all, this alternate reality is supposed to be
JF> believable; if you're not involved, the game designers have largely
JF> failed. But when it gets to the point that you're wrapping the
JF> bandages yourself, I THINK they'll want to re-evaluate their designs.
JF> :-)
hmm... very true.. =]
