| subject: | Recommend juvenile SF? |
Hello, All;
A junior-school (age 5-11, more or less) teacher I know isn't much of a
book person; being 30ish, he's part of the TV/film generation. He
mentioned that he'd been enjoying Philip Pullman's "HIS DARK MATERIALS"
trilogy that starts with NORTHERN LIGHTS, and could I recommend any books
about "space" that his children would like?
He left me stumped. I tend to think of Heinlein juveniles like STARMAN
JONES as being in a slightly older age group. If you extend to SF rather
than "space," then I remembered Robert C. O'Brien (???)'s book MRS FRISBY
AND THE RATS OF NIMH, but that was about all. OTOH, fantasies are two a
penny (depending on what you mean by fantasy, of course). I just finished
reading Lloyd Alexander's "CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN" set of five books and
thought they were excellent, though again I thought the hard choices at the
end of the last book might make it better suited to an older group.
So, please; any recommendations for SF for younger readers?
Regards,
Robert.
