Hi Marianne
MR> dive computer and I have not found a place willing to let you rent
MR> dive computers, they'll let you check it out in their pool(if they
It wold be nice to be able to "Test Drive" the models before you
by. However, at least over here, it does not seem to be an option.
I do dive with several people that have computers and I have been
picking their brains about the pros and cons of the ones they have.
Some people I know dive with the US Diver "Matrix". It is a low
end, low price dive computer but the people are very happy with it for
the type of diving they do. It does give deco info if you find
yourself in that situation if you did not intend to.
Another friend dives with the Aladdin "Pro". He is very happy with
it. It has most of the bells and whistles that the Aladdin "Air X" has
except it is not air integrated. However it costs less then half of
the Air X!
MR> Appreciate it, also please let us all know what the diving is like there
MR> too.
The diving here is fantastic. As Mr. Cousteau said, "the Red Sea
and The Great Barrier Reef are the 2 best dive spots in the world."
I have never dove anywhere else so I can't honestly compare. All
my diving has been in th Red Sea. Nothing but reefs, warm water and
plenty of life of all kinds. There is a reef that runs along the shore
line for its entire length and makes shore diving no problem here.
However there are many outer reefs that we access by boat also.
I live on a compound only 5 minutes from the Red Sea. Usually at
least once a week we get in a midweek dive. We can get home from work,
grab our gear, check in with the Coast Guard, have a hour plus dive
and be home by 6 o'clock. On the weekends divers head north and south
of Jeddah for different shore diving spots. Some spots have a fair walk
out to the reef but once there the diving is worth it. A lot of people
drag out a "float" to take their gear out.
On the weekends we will also head out on the boats to the outer
reefs and wrecks. A one day boat dive costs about 54 US dollars. That
is basically just for the ride as you bring your own lunch and tanks.
Your usually good for 2 dives and sometimes squeeze in a third.
Cheers, eh! Internet: ron.whalen@svcity.woodybbs.com
