| subject: | IREX 2.29 UUCP outbound problem |
->I've been setting up IREX 2.29 as a UUCP email server.. Well, the problem wasn't with IREX at all, but with Verizon. They have blocked all outbound Port 25 traffic. Nasty timing as it coincided with me making some changes in IREX. It worked fine before as SMTP/POP3 and quit at the same time I reverted it back to UUCP to mesh with the BBS. It took several calls to Verizon tech support, and waiting almost an hour for a supervisor before someone would admit that they are now blocking those ports. I have sent a letter to Verizon requesting that the port be re -enabled as that is a material change of conditions, and done without notification. If they refuse to open the port again, I will complain to the Public Utilities Commission, and eventually switch DSL providers. So, if anyone has their outbound mail suddenly quit, try to telnet to a SMTP server on port 25. ( Example from the Windows default telnet program: open smtp.server.com 25 ) When it connects, type EHLO localhost and see if you get a response. If so, you're OK.
