Irvine blames poor decision making

(25-Jul-98) - Eddie Irvine blamed a lack of decision making at Ferrari for
their qualifying performance in Austria on Saturday after the team threw
away the perfect opportunity to grab pole position.

The wet conditions should have handed the advantage to 'rain-master'
Michael Schumacher, but the team's unwillingness to switch onto
intermediates at the end cost them dearly. Schumacher qualified fourth and
Irvine eighth.

"We were too indecisive today," claimed Irvine. "I should
have gone out on intermediates at the end, but for these tyres to work you
have to do several laps on them.

"Going out on them early would have been a gamble. In the end, we left
it too late to run on intermediates and I had to use wets. With this grid
ti will be very interesting tomorrow and race tactics will be a deciding
factor."

Schumached added: "I am not worried about starting from the second row
with Mika beside me. But both of us will have to get to the front. With
this grid it will be very interesting tomorrow and race tactics will be the
deciding factor."
