subject: Sound cards & speakers

PM> Hmmn... compare that to my relatively generic MPU-401 wavetable card
PM> plugged into a nifty Kenwood Pro-Logic amp and enough speaker power
PM> to cause hard drive glitches. Annoying overkill connected to a sorry
 PM> sound card. :(
I think an AWE64 Gold might help there. Beyond just being a
nicely-enhanced sound card (compared to the AWE32, at least), it also has
gold-plated connectors! The clarity on my new machine is astounding, though
I cheated and got a gold-plated input cable as well. I'm not absolutely sure
if this would help your machine, but it couldn't hurt. :-) Duke Nukem
Forever's rocket launcher hits will boom in perfect clarity!
PM> Nobody is always happy. All part of the game game. BTB, if you're
PM> looking for a tell-it-like-it-is computer magazine, you might want
PM> to check out Boot. Lots of fun for the hardware fans, especially.
But, as you've mentioned (and as is quite obvious from the covers), it's
primarily a hardware magazine. While their attitudes towards gameplay are
probably unbiased, they may take more of a liking to games with good use of
hardware (especially 3D hardware).
