All large breed dogs will suffer hip dysplasia sooner or later, but during
the later years of my shepherd, my vet told me there was an operation that
could prevent that in large breed dogs, but it must be done when they are
very young.  The vet knew his trade better than any other vet I've known,
so I believed him.
