I know that TSRs can play their little games, but I'm not as certain
that they are the contributing factor here. True, my current desk
top probably has more TSRs than I know about since installing WIN95.
It's hard to keep up with what these windows programs add to the
system. However, this is not the only system that the same problem
has occurred. My 486SX laptop, for instance, has replicated the same
problem. And I do know what this computer is running when it's on.
I have DRDOS running GW. No windows, memory managers, etc. It is a
pretty "stripped down" system, but it has exhibited the same prob.
Lost data at work the same way on a similar "stripped down" system.
Until the recent replies, the only consistent pattern that I observed
was file size. I have yet to have this happen to any of my "smaller"
   DBs.
I continue to tweak, though, and protect my data as best I can.
   Thanks for the help.
