JA> As I thought. This is what I thought a device like this would be. A

It is only a Rip Off in as much as it it overpriced for Aircraft.
The FAA has very sringtent rules and regulations for anything
that is manufacture for Aircraft. The R & D and Engineering costs
are very much higher for anything to be used in an Aircraft.
That is why the prices are so much higher. They work extremely
well on Airplanes. You can tell where the Static Electricity
Discharges are in the sky, their intensity, frequency and even
direction from your location at any given time. They enable
you to navigate around the more severe storms and arrive at your
destination in one piece. Of course a complete Weather Report
from the FAA Weather forecasters is a must when you do your
flight planning.
The simple Stormscope designs for uses other than for Aircraft
should be a lot cheaper. If there is a lot of Static activity
in the area you are in, the scope gets cluttered so that the
picture is not useful. Just hit the Restore knob and it gets rid of
the clutter on the screen and you can then readily see what you are
looking for.
