* MOOD: Strictly official :-|
Hey JEFF NELSON, how's she hanging?....
JN> Yeah, I'm in my right mind when I say that. Joust and Defender are
JN> legendary, and to hear you say crap about them really annoys the HELL
JN> (not h*ll) outta me. I could play Joust forever, along with defender,
JN> and of course, Doom. You must be one of those graphic junkies who don't
JN> pay attention to gameplay.
They're fun games for a while, but in the final analysis, all Joust is good
for is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Defender, however, has more merits to its
name. But the term "graphics junkies" isn't a fair one. I'll agree with you
that great graphics don't make up for terrible gameplay, but when the
ameplay
is already pretty good, they help it a lot. As an example: the code for
olf
3-D was released a little while back for "educational purposes." I saw a
er-
sion of Wolf redone in grayscale. Instantly, though the engine - and hence
the
gameplay was the same, the game seemed a little more cartoony.
So there's an example of how graphics are - to some extent - quite integral
o
gameplay. Before flaming back, please realize ^^^^ ^^^^^^ were my exact
words.
