RW> the "Aladin Air X" by Uwatec. any comments on these 2 computers?
I have the Aladin Sport. This computer is packed with all the
features I wanted and was moderately priced compared to other
brands. The features I considered most important were these:
1. Automatic start as soon as the unit is immersed. I don't like
computers that have to be switched on manually like the Oceanic
models. I have seen too many divers forget to switch them on
until the first time they check depth or bottom time, and by then
it's too late-the data is meaningless.
2. PC interface. This is an extra cost option :( but is worthwhile
since it gives you access to the last 37 dives. Only the last 19
dives can be scrolled on the Aladin's built in display.
The PC interface also allows you to switch the unit from English
to Metric units, and lets you graph the most recent 200 minutes
of dive time (1 data point every 20 seconds), plus the lowest
temperature encountered during each dive is uploaded to the PC.
The temperature is another item that the Aladin doesn't display
on it's own screen but is stored internally.
3. Most conservative tissue model used in recreational dive computers.
All in all, I think the Uwatec Aladins are the best value around.
There are fancier computers, and cheaper computers, but the Aladin
is an excellent intermediate model.
