Damon turns down Williams' millions? (27-Jul-98) - Damon Hill is rumoured to have turned down a œ5 million offer from his former team Williams. It is believed that the ailing Williams team, who have lost their star driver Villeneuve to BAR, are keen to bring the former World Champion back on board to help them in developing the car before their BMW engine deal starts in 2000. Hill, who won his drivers' title with Williams, appears to be in great demand despite failing to score a single point this season or score a win since leaving Williams in 1996. Jordan are keen to retain the services of the Englishman whilst BAR boss Craig Pollock has also made it clear that he would be more than happy to offer Hill a drive alongside former Williams team-mate Villeneuve in his fledgling British American Racing team. Rumours that Irvine has also been contacted by Frank Williams have led to speculation that a possible deal with ChampCar star Alex Zanardi is far from complete. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
