subject: Slow XP

ML> EV> Because this XP MCE 2005 SP3 computer has been acting very
ML> EV> slow I ran one pass of MEMTEST-86 v4.0a yesterday on it.

ML>is that memtest-86 or memtest-86+ ?? there is a huge difference...
ML>always use the + version...

 EV> I never heard of memtest-86+.

i think i made a mistake on the name... there's no '-' in it...

EV> I downloaded it but haven't used it yet to check the RAM.

memtest86+ is done by another author when the original author of memtest86
wasn't doing anything for a while and it needed to be updated... until the
+ version came out, i used the original but ever since, it has always been
the + version...

i also run it off of a bootable live linux CD... i use ubuntu here and it
has it on the live CD as a menu option... when the CD comes up, it offers a
language choice... i hit ESC there most of the time to keep the default and
then arrow down two or three times to run memtest86+ for several full
rounds... there are numerous tests per round...
