KP> true...but in reality who also carries a full arsenal
KP> of weapons with them?
KP> Most gamers, like myself love to see an assorted array of weaponry in a
KP> game but it's not very viable to be able to carry a rocket launcher, a
KP> machine gun, a pistol, a shotgun, some grenades, a few pipebombs, a lead
KP> pipe and a lightning gun with you all in one backpack..
KP> if games were to take on the amount of realism you would like to see
hen
KP> the most a single person could probably carry comfortably,
KP> [comfortably meaning able to walk and sprint for an
KP> extended period and not
KP> suffer from a crushed spine] would be a pistol, a submachine gun, ammo
for
KP> the latter and some pipebombs/grenades...and perhaps a bat or knife for
KP> close combat..
KP> im mean sure, that sounds cool.. and it would be cool if those weapons
KP> had some awesome physics and whatnot.. but eventually you'd tire of them
KP> and go play Skynet or something..
True, it always has bugged me as to why these people could carry so many
weapons on their backs and belts without either trundling along slowly or
just not functioning. But let's face it - it's a concession to gameplay.
What we're really looking for is a game closer to Trespasser. Your
inventory is readily available... just look down, it's on your belt hooks!
Anything else you either actively carry or gets thrown (such as a rock).
Maybe in Prey, you could choose what weapons you carry by dropping and
picking up the weapons you want to take with you to the next environment
("don't call them levels," the Prey team says).
KP> wow..im babbling..anyhow..i think my original point is: when 1st person
KP> games start getting to the point of reality where you start to act like
KP> a "really" real person...[not a duke/quake guy, person] games might
KP> start to suffer from dullness.. everyone i know plays those games to
KP> escape reality...we like to think that we're super[wo]men who can take
KP> down armies of thugs with our bare hands..
KP> i dunno...i just think that games should strive for reality but not to
KP> an excessive point... or something...
I don't think they'll suffer from dullness so long as the designers
maintain focus. After all, this alternate reality is supposed to be
believable; if you're not involved, the game designers have largely failed.
But when it gets to the point that you're wrapping the bandages yourself, I
THINK they'll want to re-evaluate their designs. :-)
