>-> Anyone know anything about ENGLISH SHIRE HORSES?? I've been offered a

We just finished doing an article on the Shire horse. They
are slower moving than the Clydesdale (which they somewhat
resemble) but are longer lived. I saw a photo of a man and
his team of four mares, not one of which was under 25, and
some were over 30 years old and still working! The Shire
also has much more feathering; the white hairs grow right out
the front of the leg from the knee down, whereas a Clydesdale
has feathering only on the sides and backs of the legs.
Price ranges are usually based on family lines, on condition
of the horse in particular, and just basic horse-trading
instincts. People will ask what they hope they will get.

Gentle Giants is applied to any draft horse. The forest horse
from which they are descended were calmer in disposition than the
speedy desert horses, like the Barb and Arabian.
