Of course, you could always try calling 000 (911 etc) and wait for
a patrol car to not attend. :)

The authorities are trying all sorts of initiatives to deter people
from expecting police to prevent crime or catch perpetrators. The
police are too busy watching home movies taken from surveillance
camera footage to go out on patrol - the most popular film is of
a man & woman having sex on the floor of the War Memorial, oblivious
to the camera!

Most Australian states have introduced laws or amendments to laws to
allow home occupiers to use whatever force they feel is necessary to
deal with intruders while they are home.

No, as those who do have the key are likely to use that enclosure for
storage of junk - old mattresses, wardrobes, sheetmetal, plus I will
no longer be able to get in to clean those windows, which get covered
in dust, spiderwebs & pigeon droppings.
